Do you think the "wrong side" (i.e. the federalists) won the debate early on as to what sort of nation the United States should be and we have been paying the price since then?

It should be noted that even the relatively "federalist-lite" approach of the Federalists turned out to be too "lite" and the Fourteenth Amendment passed to secure for the nation a yet-even-more "federalist" union.

The Confederacy was anti-federalist. There government was a failure even before they lost militarily.

Our federal government is the greatest government in the world since WWII.

In my opinion, any American who advocates secession should be arrested and then shot by a firing squad.

Like how we seceded from Great Britain? Good thinking on your part.
The Federal government that ha been responsible for our booms and busts that ruin the economy? That has stuck its nose in foreign countries where it doesn't belong?
It has overstepped it's authority and makes us less safe and our degrades our lives. Technology improves it.

No, we were doing quite well until Lincoln tipped the balance of power totally toward the Feds.

That's why I consider Lincoln our worst president ever.

In my opinion, anyone who proposes that any American who advocates secession should be arrested and shot should be arrested and shot.

And also maybe anyone who thinks our federal disaster of a government is the greatest in the world.

Would that include the federal government that has killed thousands and thousands of innocent people? And locked up innocent people because of their race? And spied on people because they didn't agree with their political position? And given billions of our hard earned tax dollars to their buddies? etc, etc.
