74% of Americans polled in a new ABC/Washington Post poll disapprove of the way Congressional Republicans are handling the budget negotiations. This is up from 63% two weeks ago.

I never thought they'd manage to unite so many American citizens so quickly...against their own party.

Lets just hope this tide of disapproval for the Republicans continue through the November elections in 2014.

There's something seriously wrong with that 26% who aren't on board.

Pollsters figure that there is a 21% 'die-hard' base of conservatives in this country. Remember about 19% still think Cheney is the best vp ever.

If the GOP is polling at 26%, they are getting perilously near to losing everyone who isn't 110% on their side already. And you don't get to win elections with that.

Do you have a link to that poll?

Not that I don't believe the results.

Yes you do, as long as people don't vote that is.

The really sad thing is that many Americans, including here on this board, have been talking about the impending GOP disaster for years. Some, who were still clueless before the last presidential election, started seeing the light once Obama won again. They kept calling for change - not the kind that Obama had promised, but for change in the GOP.

And change they got - but it was again not the change they had hoped for. Instead of analyzing the situation with level heads, the GOP leadership bought into populistic nonsense and started catering to a more and more extreme fringe group. By doing so, they abandoned the much more numerous but far less vociferous "middle."

Even after experiencing anything from disdain to ridicule, GOP leadership has not been able to open its eyes. They are mired in the idea that they are just not conservative enough when, in reality, the opposite is true.

The reality is that most Americans are not extremists. Most of us fall somewhere in the middle and basically embrace a live-and-let-live approach to life.

These days, the GOP, unfortunately, represents a very myopic and self-centered viewpoint. They are so concerned with their own needs and wants that they are completely unable to see the rest of us. Instead, they have convinced themselves that all of us are like them and that all of us want what they want. We don't. And more and more of us don't.

emcee squared: Poll: Republicans losing no-win game

lycos -- Was that clip from before or after the shutdown? With the margins in many areas very narrow, just a few percentage points could swing the elections to the left. Remember, Cruz won by a fingernail.
