Quote:
FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — While politicians in the United States argue about spending cuts, deficits and the debt ceiling, Germany faces a different discussion: What to do with a looming budget surplus.

The country's strong economy means it will take in more in tax revenue than it will spend next year for a third straight year, a group of top economic institutes said in a twice-annual report Thursday.

Of course they went through hell and back to get to where they are today, so there was a bitter price for reaching this level of political maturity. Us Americans havnt travelled their road...yet....

Its important to keep in mind that while deficits tend to fluctuate a lot, Germany's debt levels are almost identical to the US's:

I would say a region, but I agree. It's truly remarkable that Germany's economy has continued being fairly prosperous during these times, we need to take a page out of a few countries book including Germany, Norway, China, and even the former Soviet Union. I say Norway because of their Sovereign Wealth Fund, Germany because of obvious reasons, China because of their financial state, and the former Soviet Union because of how they use to plan with their 5-yr plans.

Only difference is that Germany is projected to reduce their debt level, and the US will increase their debt level until 2018.

But Germany's debt level is about 85% of GDP while America's is over 100 % and increasing.

Our debt is suppose to begin decreasing in 2018? I thought there were no projections for the US to reduce our debt.

Assuming government spending does not increase, yes.

I agree. What they don't have is a nuch of lunatics holding the nation hostage over their delusional ideals. We could be a lot more like them if we eject the crazy portions of the GOP and get people interested in actually governing.
