That 20% "the insurance companies get to keep has to cover their operating expenses, too.
True profit is what's left over after netting all income ( premiums) and expenses ( operating costs, reserves and claim payouts).

Many health insurers are not-for-profits.

I know. This thread is a sarcastic vent thread.

That 23.5% is still getting paid by the tax payers even if its a nonprofit. You can bet on that. Non profits still get to spend on salaries.

Yes you know because you always hear us conservatives complaining about corporations making money. Sorry, but you have no point here.

How about you do some research and look up how most other countries have pushed health insurance companies into non-profits to drive down costs. You actually have a good discussion here, but you decided to make it some crazy partisan whining.

Nothing about "non-profit" means "lower cost". Nothing .

But insurance companies never make 20% profit. And in many cases, the government controls their profit margins.

Finally someone got it!

Remember it was stated that a positive of the ACA was big bad insurance companies would now be limited to no more than a 20% profit? Well that was made out to be a good thing. It implyed that insurance companies have been making more than that. The truth is a 20% profit for insurance companies is a great thing for insurance companies because they rarely make that much or even close to it. Now they get 20% of a much bigger pie and the goverment lown shark gets 3.5% for making us buy. The goverment is the the drug dealer and the ACA is the drug we are required to take or pay for it anyways.

Easy way to save even more, let the people who need health care die. From Ron Paul and "Let them die."
