There is one very important group to the vitality and viability of the US healthcare system who has been largely ignored. Physicians are fearing the onset of Obamacare, with many of them believing they won't be able to make enough money to remain in practice.
Also think about the debt doctors take on when going to medical school. With low payments, high medical school debt, high malpractice insurance, high taxation long stressful hours it may not be worth going to medical school.

With what doctors charge for a 5 minute office visit they will remain in practice. I do think that their enormous debt for medical school should be paid for though. This country is lacking doctors because of the high cost of medical school.

In general the US public doesn't give a rat about US physicians and what impact the ACA has on them. Most Americans respect the hard work physicians go through to (med school, residency training). But what they pay for their healthcare is all that matters to them. Most American's (especially liberal lawyers) don't care about physician malpractice costs. They always cite the 1% cost of malpractice claims/premiums as a percentage of total health care spending as a reason to keep the malpractice system the way it is. The truth is it's impossible to really say how much defensive medicine cost the health care system.
Part of the ACA law makes physician work even less valuable by encouraging "mid level" providers to have more autonomy. And there are states such as Oregon that have now passed an "equality" law that forces insurers to pay mid levels the same as MD's for the same services.
So yes, if mid levels are getting paid the same or close to the same as MDs, it starts to make one wonder whether medical school is even worth it.
But this isn't really about mid levels or malpractice. It's really about money at the end of the day. Too many interested parties want their money. Hospital industries. Big Pharma, Insurance companies. Device makers. Plus all the middle guys.
With exception of the UK. The United States spends far less on physician income than any other country in the world. I know. I know. It's hard to imagine that. US docs "make too much money." We see specialists make 300-500K easily. Some even make 1-2 million. But as a percentage of total health spending, US spends the 2nd least amount of money on physician income.
So we all know where the problem is. It's the middle guys. A single payer system will probably help most US physicians by getting rid of the middle guys. But you betcha, the middle guys will bribe their way before that happens and there will be tremendous pressure on physicians to do more work for less and less. Because the middle guys need their cut of the profits as well.
Oh, let's get rid of the middle guy. Easier said than done. It will skyrocket unemployment to well over 15% if you get rid of the middle guys in the health industry.

Natalie, what do you do for a living?
Do you actually think that a 5 minute doctors office visit is all they do? You have no clue. Your like a dog, out of site out of mind. Doctors don't operate that way?

Know it alls like you are offensive.
What does it matter what I do for a living. I go to the doctor just like everyone else. Please tell me why I have to pay over $100 for a visit just to tell me my blood work came out fine. They could have told me that over the phone. I'm not a know it all, I am just telling you my experience.

If you don't think they are worth it then don't go to the doctors. Diagnose and treat yourself.

Actually, I have been I rarely get sick. Although, I still go to my OB who I have trusted for over 30 years. You know he would actually make a house call without charging me. But he's an old time doc.
I suspect some of them might go blackmarket, cash only, no sign on the window, just blackout window film. Heck this might even be a good thing, they may start making house calls again. Some of the smart ones were doing this already, but they get tracked down and shut down and pick it up and do it all over again.

Because most of that $100 goes towards paying his front desk people for answering phones and handing scheduling, his INSANE malpractice insurance, paying his rent or office lease, and most importantly... paying for the new staff he's going to need just to handle the additional paperwork created by Obamacare.

Aren't Liberals the ones who always claim that anything that regulates Abortion would cause back alley abortions that would kill everyone involved?
You want your "old time" OB to come to your house and help you for free?
