No we need the mainstream media to protect us from the government. There are no bigger guns than the media and ethical journalists.

that was going to be my question. Google has some horrendous aspects when it comes to privacy and intellectual property. I have been interested in a new venture called startpage which offers an end run around google. Google keeps all your searches, but startpage gives a portal to google so that google cannot trace your searches back to you

What the USA said we disdained about the the former cold war communist governments surveilling their own citizens is now what our own government is doing to US under the guise of keeping us safe. Makes you think!

Startpage is far from new. Ixquick is same company. (2005) ( New Ixquick/Startpage International Search Engine Unveiled) There are other SE with similar features.
