The "rich" are "rich" because of hard work
Some of the rich are rich because of hard work. Many are not...they inherited the money or got lucky along the way with their stocks or speculations. I know a lot of people that work VERY hard, but will never be rich.
In the UK I had to wait months to see a specialist, not weeks. The shortest wait time I ever had for a specialist was four months. Unacceptable.
I have a couple of friends that live in England, neither one has had problems seeing a doctor in emergencies. One has had breast cancer and got treatment right away and is still alive and well 10 years later. Her neighbor has colon cancer and also received speedy treatment, despite the fact that she is in her late 80's. I think it very much depends on where you live, and how many doctors accept NHS patients there.
No waiting lists, the very latest drugs and treatments available, highly qualified specialists, great preventative and palliative care, centres for recuperation and recovery and all this available to ALL including the poor and homeless.

Compulsory health insurance covers the whole population. Premiums are charged as a percentage of income and the total cost is nearly 20% of payroll, including the employer's and employee's contribution.
Hmmm,that would be in addition to what people would pay now.
Also it appears the French system works by.....85% of the people have supplementary health insurance that they pay for out of pocket...
Supplementary health insurance for WHAT? My mother has that also, in Germany. This insurance pays for her to have a private room, instead of sharing a hospital room. It also pays for extra costs with dental treatments, such as implants etc. Most dental insurance in this country doesn't cover implants and only 50% of crowns, and this is PRIVATE insurance.
How much are you willing to pay extra for 'free' healthcare?
I KNOW it isn't free for everyone,but it IS free(or very inexpensive) to those who are poor...
This has been discussed again and again. We already pay... with higher charges to our medical care, to recoup the losses of uninsured patients. Do you think the hospitals and doctors "eat the cost"? Of course they pass it on. If people have a low income. over here, often they can't afford insurance, so if they are sick, they end up at the emergency room. A better solution would be to make them pay what they can afford for health insurance and then they could go to GP when they an issue, much cheaper than going to the ER.
What is your solution by the way? Those opposed to some kind of national health insurance always gripe and complain about the NHS, or any other system. However, the system over here isn't working the way it is set up currently. What would YOU do to fix it?

As it was so innocently put in the article, when "the wishes of the French Government are out of sync with the preferences of the French people".
My point would be if you are paying 20% of payroll for healthcare and on top of that pay another 2.5% of your salary voluntarily and THEN 85% of the people pay for private insuracne it doesn't seem like that great a system...
As long as you aren't sick I guess it works fine....
A close friend's Swedish mother needed cancer treatment,due to her age it wasn't a 'priority' for the national health system,luckily her son could pay for it.
Virtually every system rations care in some way. There would be no way to afford it, otherwise.
