the liberal defines success by how many people he has managed to help through government action; the conservative defines success by how many people he has freed from need of such assistance. We never knew when the Democrats announced "the war on poverty" that they meant it literally.

Where the poor are concerned, the left cheers as potential employers are strangled by taxes and regulations that fund an ever-expanding downward spiral of institutional anchors for everyone unlucky enough to be born or otherwise drawn into their miserable subculture.
Johnson launched the war on poverty. DC Republicans have launched a war on the poor. That's a slight difference.
Johnson's war on poverty destroyed the black family. The man had to leave before the family could get on welfare. They haven't been able to recover since.
Plus, why do liberals want to push abortion so much if their programs are so wonderful for poor families? The child can never get into those wonderful programs if they are sucked down the sink. Dems just want to control the poor for their votes, after they vote they hope they kill their babies before they are born.

??? Cutting off say 10M people from food stamps is NOT success if the people end up worse off. That's where conservatives go wrong.

Whose fault is that? Lefties were complaining about the "no man in the house" rule back in the 1960s.
Because the poor teach their children what they know. Think about it.
??? I was taught that if I worked hard and stayed in school and got good graades and didn't do drugs or crime I'd become rich. Then I learned otherwise.
