A Georgia man will face criminal charges for accidentally setting fire to his wife by flicking his lighter near his pickup truck's gas tank while refueling.

Austin Dawkins, 37, of Clarkesville will be charged with reckless conduct, according to a statement from the state fire safety commissioner, Ralph Hudgens.

How does CNN know it was an accident. It looks like he did it on purpose. Not only did he light it, when he removed the nosel, he sprayed her with the flames.

That doesn't look like an accident at all. Why in the world would you light a lighter then lower your hand towards the nozzle?

This is why ordinary citizens should not be able to pump their own gas. Oregon has had it illegal for a long time to pump your own gas.

Huh?
My dad has pumped his own gas for half a century without a problem. I have done it since 1985...I have never seen anything happen.

This is actually the first time I have even recall anything bad REPORTED.

But you know, keep the fear-mongering alive!

That did not appear to be an accident to me, he looked like he was being malicious.

This is not an accident.
An accident is defined as such:

ac·ci·dent
ˈaksidənt/
noun
noun: accident; plural noun: accidents
  1. 1.
an unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury.

Waving a lighter around in gas fumes in direct violation of every posted sign is not "accidental."
