Are views here, provoking computer attacks?

Friday My computer was attacked and I have no idea how it got around my anti-virus. It popped up the warning it had blocked an attack.

I was here only for a brief time on Friday, but did happen after I had exited out of here and my browser. Is there any way for someone savy to find you and hack your computer from just your participation, or user info on a message board profile?

Anyone else here, with Conservative views get hit by a malware-spyware-virus on Thursday, Friday, or this past weekend?

It changes your proxy settings, Pops up all these warnings file after file are infected and directs you to go to buy a virus shield anti-virus and wants your credit card.

You can't open any of your programs. It will let you open a web browser, but displays a message in the window no matter what browser, or where you try to go.... Internet Explorer Warning: this web page my be harmful to your computer.

It was easy to get rid of, but annoying as hell to jump through the hoops to get back on the web and quarantine/ delete the files.

You didn't get it from here. You probably opened a bad email attachment (or were surfing porn)

You need to be using a Chrome browser, by the way. It's faster and safer.

UBUNTU
Super-fast and great-looking, Ubuntu is a secure, intuitive operating system that powers desktops, servers, netbooks and laptops. Ubuntu is, and always will be, absolutely free.

Since making the switch from Windows, I have not had a single problem with viruses, rootkits, malware, spyware, or other goodies Windows sucks up like a vacuum cleaner. My computer also does not require a periodic reformat due to sluggish performance and failing speed.

Download, install, tweak to personal preference. Then, you'll be free to troll forums with your conservative viewpoints all you want, without having to accuse other posters of being in on a conspiracy to upload viruses to your comp to silence your views. Then you'll have to deal with other posters shredding your opinions because they are built on factual errors, bigotry, and a black-and-white view of the world... And your computer will be A-OK.

No, I wasn't suggesting this place personally had anything to do with it.

My e-mail provider, Earthlink, has a very good rep of catching stuff before it ever makes it to my web based e-mail. Maybe they did miss one, but it didn't happen while I was reading or opening e-mail.

This is the only place I had been. I exited out to do some work. I opened my word processor and about 10-15 minutes, my anti-virus warned of an attack that it had automatically blocked. I kept working and about 3 minutes later a box popped up saying a file had been infected and if I wanted to fix it.

After having a computer hooked to the internet for 15 years, this is the first time, I had someone takeover my computer, making it virtually useless.

Hmm...

I don't think there is any possibility that this site was not watched or people that post on this site were not watched by the NSA during the run ups to elections.

Knowing what we know now, it's very obvious that the OP was probably targeted for his conservative views by at least one liberal working in the government.

Nothing on here is encrypted. Bad things can be injected into advertising and scripts can also be exploited. Attacks these days are very sophisticated. I would look into virtualization. Either full or at a minimum a sandbox component.
