$1500. in Seattle doesn't go far. You could do it in the south or midwest though. I bet $1500. in Oklahoma is a lot of money.
Income to debt ratio and lifestyle play a role.
My $800 studio apartment in Southern California would be about $375-$400 back in my home area in Ohio. But in Southern California I can actually go outside when I want. I'm no longer a prisoner to weather and boredom.
So we've heard a lot of folks here say that if they had a guaranteed income everyone would quit and never work again. This amazes me. most of my friends would keep working! So I wondered...how much of that is projection onto others, vs's how many here would....
ps...yes I know...a typo in the header. If a mod see's this, can you fix the typo as I cant edit it apparently. Sigh.
I have not heard many (if any) people say they would quit working if they had $1500 a month guaranteed income. I am sure there are some people with low drive and needs who would.
If you are referring to government subsidies I believe it could be more than $1500 a month and and there are people who would take that while working off the books.
I get more than $1,500 guaranteed income (trust fund and other sources), I still work like a dog.
My dogs just lie around, go outside to play and eat. Very little work from them. And don't even get me started on my lazy cat. Although on occasion he will catch a mouse but only to play with until I catch it and release it.

I would quit if the money just "appeared" in my account each month.

All kidding aside I agree with your ethic.
lol
I also work because I want to save money and invest. I love working, makes me feel productive.
It's a lot easier to work when you know you don't have too. I had a guaranteed income three times that amount and worked . I have a friend that gets $ 70 to $ 80 thousand a year from a trust and has for over 20 years and he still works at his own business. He says he loves to get his statement and watch it grow and you know it's true when you see his eyes light up when he talks about it. I get the feeling he thinks he's taking it with him when he goes.
