Not necessarily. Their brothers in blue frequently lie for them and cover their azzes. Some, if they repeat their wrongdoings enough, eventually are held accountable. But many aren't.

Any settlement the family gets against the police should come directly from the police pension fund. Not the police operating budget, not insurance( although I guess if insurance pays the claim they could then go after the pension fund) not the municipality.
When Fred the retired cop sees his pension reduced and Cliff sees that his pension will be reduced due to gross misconduct they'll be more inclined to weed out bad cops or problem officers who can no longer do the job. They won't cover for them.
You people wanted a police state where the government authorities can do as they wish, so stop complaining.

Now jaywalking and possession of a screwdriver are death sentences from Judge Dredd...

I'm sorry if it offends you. Tell them to stop stepping all over the Constitution and to stop hurting citizens.

Damn. Seeing that we pay for it.

I believe the settlement comes out of the city fund. It would be funded by ALL taxpayers.

I agree with your stance however.

One need only Google "Southport Cop" to see numerous reports on this murder. The chicken**** cops murder again, this time right in front of the kids parents! The kid was already subdued. The murdering scum that killed him had only been on the scene a few seconds. As usual other cops will do the so called investigating so the cop will probably walk, as usual.

Cops have declared war on Americans. It's past time for Americans to take the fight to them! They're all liars and cowards. They're all guilty of murder.

But back on topic, we need to get rid of ALL internal investigations and start having 3rd party groups with citizens on the board to review incidents of Police misconduct.
