You guys wanted it to end, we ended it, so why keep bringing it up? everyone just says the same thing over and over again, blah blah blah trillions of dollars wasted, no wmd's, 100 thousand dead, blah blah blah.
I like how nonchalantly you can say that it killed x many people as though it were a meaningless number. Iraqi lives don't mean anything to you?

At the same time I don't like the way people can just shrug off a massive blunder as just a mistake. As though, "oh well it was a bad policy move, move on".

This is the type of stuff that people should get prosecuted for. Democrats and Republicans. Even if they knew Saddam had WMDs or not, the push for war was ludicrous.

That's why Bush won't leave the country, especially to Europe where they'd definitely stir trouble for him.

Yep, and providing (more) freedom to the Iraqi people.

I am still tempted to say that it wasn't worth it, though.

In 2009, not in 2008.

Please get your facts straight. Thank you very much.

He acted like he did: because in his view - Iran was more of a threat to Iraq and he had to maintain the position that he had WMDs as a deterrent to Iran taking future military action against Iraq after the first Gulf War. He didn't fear the US as a threat to his power - but had to make the Iranians think that he had WMDs to keep that country from initiating any future wars.

Saddam NEVER had WMDs and Bush and Cheney as well as the CIA knew that he did NOT have WMDs but used that as a basis for starting the war.

At one point Saddam had WMDs. There are actual records of him using them. Not really sure where you get your facts from...

The US didn't learn anything. This will continue to happen until the US "gets it right", which will be never. If there is anything to learn it would be to stop meddling in the business of other countries and governments. While the WH is slowing going down the sink hole, it's too busy to fix what is wrong right here in America because it's trying to change what they think is wrong in other countries.

Count Karzai as another US puppet who actually turned on the US and sold out our military to the Taliban and the US kept throwing money at him knowing that Karzai was playing both sides. Although the topic is Iraq, there isn't much difference between Iraq and what will happen in Afghanistan, so I'm going to address Afghanistan, which appears to be a guaranteed failure as was Iraq.

If you recall, the US was negotiating back in October with Karzai to sign off on the peace agreement that would keep troops in Afghanistan and he refused and said it would be considered after the elections. It was in November that Karzai started to have his secret meetings with the Taliban.

Afghanistan will go back to where it was. First order of business is to go back to denying human rights and justice, especially for women.

Two days ago:

Quote:
Since November of last year, the Karzai government has been secretly talking with Taliban representatives, whom it claims are willing to join the peace process.

The numbers indicate peace is not their goal. A July 2013 United Nations report showed an increase of 23% in civilian casualties over 2012, and the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) reported 90% of these were the result of Taliban violence.

This week the Afghan Parliament passed a law which will eviscerate the 2009 Law on the Elimination of Violence against Women. The new law prohibits family members from testifying against an accused defendant, even forbidding a victim from testifying against his or her abuser. In a nation where most women’s social lives are conducted almost exclusively within the family, such a law will have the effect of denying justice to a vast majority of victims.

“These are very scary times,” lamented Manizha Naderi

WAW issued a statement on February 5th decrying the new law, which not only silences witnesses who are relatives, but also physicians who have examined a victim, thus allowing acts of domestic violence to occur with impunity.
Karzai and Parliament Selling Out Afghan Women to Taliban

To enact such laws is a government/parliament that does not want change. The Taliban does not want change. Karzai and parliament are doing what they can do to keep the power after the US withdraws. To not sign the peace agreements is a guarantee withdrawal of the US and guarantees a spot for Karzai/parliament (or so they think??) The US has no say in who can run for election, even if it is someone high up in the Taliban. And that vote will be obtained the same way Morsi got his - go to the poor districts, the villages, round them up, and through intimidation and a few Afghan Afghanis secure the person they want in office.

Four days ago. Interesting article:

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/04/wo...iban.html?_r=0

The agreements were to have been signed off back in October so that the US could plan for withdrawal and leaving several thousands of military behind. Here it is February and the US is sitting back on it's hands waiting to see the outcome of the elections with no plan. If they do have any plans, I hope the first plan is full withdrawal.

A lot of what is being said here about Iraq will be said about Afghanistan.

I wasn't calling you stupid. I was telling you to please get your facts straight. Telling you to please state correct facts/information does not equal to calling you stupid.
