assad is relatively secular , he may very well be the lesser of two evils , putin wining that political battle with Obama last year may have been best , Russians are not always wrong , why is the usa so keen to get rid of assad , the leaders in several African nations are every bit as brutal yet it doesn't make the news

Yes, I agree.

Assad isn't destroying entire Christian villages and slaughtering the inhabitants.
Assad isn't demanding that any ethnic group adhere to Islam - or be killed!
Assad kept a diverse nation together without the splintering sought by Saudi and al Queda backed groups.
Perhaps Putin's foreign policy will keep the Middle East from splintering more - unlike our current Cessatary-of-State who can't seem to get his head out of his rear end.
