In my state the cutoff was September 1. My birthday is in September so I was 18 for all but the first few weeks of my senior year of high school and I had been promoted each year.
I'm an October birthday and started school in Maryland, where the cutoff was early November - then moved to California in 2nd grade, where the cutoff is September. My parents didn't want me to repeat a grade, so I was always the youngest in my class. Well, except for the girl who skipped a year.
Anyway, I was only 16 when senior year started, and 17 when we graduated... weird thing was that I was STILL not 18 when college started, and already had my own apartment by that point! But most kids were 18 before finishing high school, which is technically an adult.
