This is exactly why the union lost the vote. The governor was going to do a Chris Christie number on VW. Just a note to you that bear so much contempt for American workers, union or not. Have you noticed that union and non union made vehicles are priced comparably?

It was the workers that voted, not the company executives.
This is a global economy now so Americans better wake up to that fact.
VW can go anywhere in the world and open a plant.

The union lost the vote because those workers want to keep their jobs for the long haul, that's why.

I always wondered why more companies didn't adopt the principles of Edward Deming, which were adopted by Japanese manufacturing companies and were a big part of what made Toyota, Honda, etc. so great.

Anyone who has worked for a large US company has witnessed the problems of US top down style mgmt. People who have never done the actual work are making and enforcing the rules. Input from those who do the work is ignored.

After reading about the VW plant it turns out that the concepts that Deming proposed are illegal under the National Labor Relations Act of 1935. US managers could not use Deming's ideas if they wanted to.

And , if one is wise enough to invest his money, rather than rely simply on a pension, then one gets rewarded when companies make money. Are you the only one that money is returned to shareholders, when a profit (higher the better) is made? It is not bad, as you portray, unless one failed to participate.

But alas...Germans aren't the same dumb goobers that we have in this country...our idiots decided to listen to Tennessee politicians that ran a campaign against union entry.

Americans just can't take yes for an answer.
And I would wager, that you are a union member...

I remember, back in 1987, my wife and I had our first child, and she wanted to work part time, and found a job at caldor's in Groton Ct. It turned out that Caldors, is a UNION SHOP, and to work there, she had to join the union, and pay union dues. Part time for her, was anywhere from 10-20 hours a week. They take the Union cut every 2 weeks, becuase they were paid bi-weekly. One paycheck, she was sick, and only got in 4 hours the one week, and nothing the next, and the next check she got, after taxes and union dues was NEGATIVE, because it wasn't enough to cover the automatically deducted union dues, and she had to make it up on the NEXT check.

Yup, gotta love that union, "Pay us to work here", attitude.

The only good union, is a Credit Union.

Umm, there has been. Not strikes and riots, but crappy rules that hurt the company, brand and young workers.

The only difference in them and their union counterparts is accountability and more pay in their checks.
A win win for non-union labor.

That is BS, Toyota, Hyundai, and Honda are much cheaper than GM, Chyrsler, and Ford.. Stop spreading your lies.. I think it is odd when liberals complain of taxpayer money going to companies, but apparently it is okay to subsidize unions...

Thus picking the winners and losers...

It wasn't the workers, it was VW and the tax breaks that Tennessee and the local county was giving them.
The workers get paid 20% more than their union counterparts and they get to speak for themselves.

Nice to see that a majority of VW employees understand that it is very hazardous to be paid more than you are worth.
