Is it for the government benefits?
Filing IRS jointly?

Is it for mandatory job benefits?
Insurance?

Is it for the end of life care?

Is it for assets after your partner is dead?

Is it so the other partner has a say in child rearing?

Or is it just to say you are a gay married couple?

I have to wonder in the reasoning?

There is an easy way out of all this, if it were not being used as a power grab over more lives, instead of setting us all free of government interference.
You have to buy friends, in these days of greed.

the reasoning is that the Supreme Court has ruled that marriage supports happiness, and the Declaration of Independence guarantees everyone the pursuit of happiness.. period..

All other personal reasons is secondary to the legal argument that gays should be allowed to marry so they can be happy.

Let me get this straight. A piece of paper creates happiness.

I have no problem living together under contract, but that is not called marriage.

It's really about forcing our society to accept homosexuality as completely natural and normal. Legalization of SSM is a big step towards that goal, but it won't stop there.

What was the reasoning, for the government to get involved in the promotion of marriage business, in the first place?

They were not involved in it, until the income based tax and the IRS was created.

No reason really. there are much easier solutions within the framework of a government to allow the homosexuals to join in a union.

But there would be no "revenge factor". And revenge is very important to that particular segment of society, so the best way to destroy marriage is to make it mean nothing at all

You don't need homosexuals to do that, you guys have been doing a smash up job of demonstrating that marriage means nothing.

Ask yourself "What is the reasoning behind straight marriage" and you'll have your answer.

right. so following that logic and the pro ssm stance that accompanies it, the answer to american citizens electing wrestlers, klansmen, actors and community organizers into their highest government offices would be to allow non citizens to vote then.
