Maybe, maybe not. But that's useless information. We're talking about TODAY, not 100 years ago.

Correct. Maybe the title should be changed to "Here is why most people hate what Unions have become".

Almost everybody hates abuse of power. The OP example is just one of many where union power has become extreme.

The Teamsters wouldn't let me plug in an extension cord at a conference in NYC.
And there are numerous examples of unions abusing their power. Hostess cupcakes is another good example. The unions required that each product be delivered in a separate delivery truck to preserve as many jobs as possible. So you had to have a Ho Hos delivery truck and a Twinkies delivery truck and a Donettes delivery truck, etc, etc even if they were all going from the same bakery to the same grocery store. And of course they destroyed the company.

You must have been a lousy welder if you only made $12 per hour. Welders are in high demand.

From your username I infer you're a fan of at least one fine union-made product:

Actually, unions are not strong in Canada and membership has been declining for the past 30 years. Union membership in the private sector has been rapidly declining but the total has been partially offset by an increase in public sector union membership.

And lots of countries with high union membership rates such as Italy are not exactly bastions of productivity.

To a point, companies in the south will pay 12.00 and find someone to do it, that's why a lot of southern welders, guys from Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia, even Texas will come up to the north east for shutdowns and even move their entire families up here for full time jobs.
