There is a difference.

That being said, I'm not tolerant of racism no matter what the source.

I was watching the overly PC Harvey Levin on TMZ refer to someone as a "red neck." Apparently it's still OK to make derogatory remarks about some white people.

Sadly - neither party has a monopoly on racism, intolerance or ignorance.
As evidenced within this and many other threads.

He's not a politician and neither is Spike Lee. If someone like Ted Nugent or Spike Lee wants to make stupid comments let them. Nobody is making them apologize until they offend way too many people or align themselves with a political campagin. Democrats loved it when Ted Nugent start campaigning with the Texas Republican candidate. Some Dems still wanted Republicans to disassociate from Nugent. Its the Republicans who kicked Ted Nugent to the curb. Dems would love him back.

He didn't say it was. He was being interviewed, he was asked a question, he answered it. You act like it's a stump speech he gives or something, it isn't.

He never said he could. Read the interview for yourself, he doesn't claim he can.

He's a black filmmaker concerned about racism and perpetuating racist stereotypes.

If you don't think it's wrong if some black people, due to racism, develop an inferiority complex about their own race and believe that white is superior, better and more beautiful, then you're proving my point that the right has a high tolerance for racism in their ranks, because that's exactly what that is. That's what Spike Lee was talking about.

They due tend to ignore Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and other racists in their own idealog. I assume they do it because they're blinded by their own bias, which is ironic because I notice that leftists in general are obsessed with race, they talk about it, and point it out more than anything else. They bring it up in debates that have nothing to do with race, and they often falsely accuse people of being racist despite the fact that there is no evidence to support such a claim.

Its an emotional word, '' Racist''. Liberals use deceptive language to draw an emotional reaction when they have lost an argument. Take Voter ID, there is no logical argument against it, so what does the left rely on? Racism. They do this with many other issues because its all they have.

The apology IMO is a day late and a dollar short, and Ted Nugent will quietly be allowed to go away by conservative media.

By contrast Spike Lee has made a bunch of egregious comments when it comes to race. The most famous was when he said that he looks 'daggers' at inter-racial couples he sees on the street, but there are many others, as Larry Elder details. Yet he was embraced by Obama in 2008, and rarely criticized by the left, much less compelled to apologize.

Why is the left so tolerant towards racists in their midst?
Liberals accept Spike Lee because liberals are (not) racist towards black people.

And since America is racist towards black people, with many conservatives hating them, police racially profiling them, ex.ex. liberals excuse a little bit of black anger towards white people.

But if the day ever comes that Americans stop being racist towards black people, then Spike Lee will get told something by liberals.

So as long as conservatives like Ted Nugent are around, liberals will accept a little black anger towards white people.

This.

I don't think that Lee's comments, taken in context of both that particular interview *and* his entire public life, are racist. It seems to me that he was pointing out how poisonous racism is, rather than accepting it as the way the world ought to work.

But suppose I'm wrong, and Lee actually is a racist. How does that make his social and political allies responsible for what he says? A racist opinion is still only one person's opinion. I get pretty tired of guilt by association. Racism is just a special case of gRoup bashing.
