I wonder how the conservatives on this board would be reacting if instead of a church sign saying Jesus would stone homos it had been a Harlem mosque with a sign reading "Allah would stone Christians."
The sign was promoting violence against gay people. Promoting that it's OK to injure or kill someone because " god " says so could incite someone to actually commit that act. She called them on it.
Actually the sign said Jesus would stone them, so I guess you could argue the sign promotes violence against those named Jesus.
So until someone named "Jesus" actually acts and decides to stone gays, there isnt any violence taking place, only intolerance.
We could put up a sign and say DUI driving kills people. Do you think we're inciting violence against DUI drivers?

Many followers of Jesus try to live the life that Jesus led. The " what would Jesus do? " brigade.
By telling their followers that " Jesus would stone Homo's " is implying that the church and their followers are neglecting the wishes of Jesus. It's pretty clear. Especially when the rest of the message says " Harlem is a Homo free zone". A false statement , but clearly a wish and a call to action.
Your driving analogy is flawed since a sign stating the fact that drunk drivers kill in no way is asking people to commit violence against drunk drivers, but to make people aware not to drive drunk.
The Atlah black Christian in Harlem has a sign outside saying "JESUS WOULD STONE HOMOS". So a lesbian rang their door bell and asked for her stoning. In another incident back in January, a Louisiana woman brought a stone to a city council meeting and shamed a councilman into backing down from his unequal rights for gays proposal. I expect we'll be seeing more of these shaming incidents where a public face confronts ideology and puts a human face to those affected.
Here is the actual sign:
"JESUS WOULD STONE HOMOS" "STONING IS STILL THE LAW"
Basically the 'church' is saying that Jesus would stone gay people to death and inciting people to do it.
The cited biblical verses on the sign are:
Leviticus 20:13 "If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them."
Matthew 5:17 ""Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them."
Deuteronomy 17:15 "take the man or woman who has done this evil deed to your city gate and stone that person to death."
