Emphysema, brain damage. Obesity due to the munchies. Welfare for those who go on disability due to being wacked out of their gourds. In this day and age of Obamacare, we're going to have to go after booze, fatty foods, the whole 9 yards. It is inevitable, just watch.

Default Is it possible to be against a nanny state yet support marijuana prohibition?

Of course it is, we are not all robots we are individuals with different likes and dislikes, different ways of looking t things and different opinions. Not all conservatives and liberals think or believe in the exact same way.

How can people be for limited government and personal freedom/responsibility, but at the same time support laws designed to protect people from themselves?
Simple as it is not a zero sum game.

There are several issues where conservatives may not care for big government, yet acknowledge it's role in modern society.
For instance the Framers feared a federal standing army if there was no war being fought. The type of modern warfare we eventually faced (i.e. the nuclear cold war) caused those notions to be replace with pragmatic acceptance of WMD's, and the federal governments responsibility to keep us safe considering the aforementioned.
As it relates to dope, many conservatives see our countries future/foundation being eroded with modern day liberalism or even libertarianism saying do whatever you please with your own body.
Our Republic cannot survive without a moral compass, and the free for all liberals and some libertarians propose would doom us in the long run.

Emphysema: You don't have to smoke marijuana to absorb it's many benefits. Also, it's never been PROVEN to cause emphysema.

Brain damage: Never proven. If that was a fact there would be no way that 21 states have legalized medical marijuana. It has been proven to relieve certain seizure disorders, which would PREVENT brain damage.

Obesity: Never heard that one. Are all prohibitionists so ignorant?

Disability: Because of marijuana? Are people on disability due to their alcohol use?
