Prior to the 1950s the word gay went through several transformations.

By the 17th century a gay man was actually someone who had sex with a bunch of women and/or referred to a woman prostitute, in addition to the old definition of "joyful."

Definitions change. Words change.

I am sick of liberals that have become the PC language police yet they are supposedly for freedom of speech? Another example of this nonsense is them demanding that illegal aliens, which is the lawful immigration term for them, to be called "undocumented" workers or immigrants. They aren't real immigrants by any stretch of the imagination who come here legally and they do have documents all fake or stolen.

I'm confused...... I thought that was the term that homosexuals personally used to describe themselves? Along with Gay and the '' Q'' word? What would the gay community prefer? I wasn't aware that the term homosexual was offensive all of a sudden.

For better or worse, the terms "illegal alien", "homosexual", "Negro", etc. have come to connote condescension or hostility. If people continue to use them and expect people not to notice, they are being willfully stupid. More often it's a case of passive aggression; they want to convey hostility and at the same time be able to deny that's what they are doing. It's pretty childish, honestly.

Problem is most people emphasize and use homosexual because they want to focus on the sex part. It's deliberate, and its calculated, and fairly transparent to most people when it's occurring.

Nothing at all to do with "political correctness."
On the flip side, heterosexual is used as a definition for procreation..................sex, a normal function between man and woman.

Homosexual is a term used to describe those with abnormal sex urges.

Sex does and always will play into the description on either side.

Get over it.

Has everything to do with PC.

how does one talk about things like gay marriage, without referring to the fact that the individuals involved, are of the same sex?

To pretend its all about focusing on the act of sex, is ridiculous.

This is a bunch of crap......the word 'homosexual, is not a deliberate attack on gay/homosexual/what ever they want to be called.

The word 'heterosexual' is not used in the same manner, because.....at least at this point, the vast majority of people are 'heterosexuals'.

You just did. "Gay marriage", "same sex". Neither of those synonyms for "homosexual" is antiquated, so if someone consistently chooses an antiquated term in preference to a current one, most people will assume there's a reason behind it.

Antiquated, nonPC.

What a load of garbage.

I guess I will have to use deviant and non-deviant behavior.
