“If someone was a member of the Ku Klux Klan, and they were running a little bakery for instance, the majority of us would find it detestable that they refuse to serve blacks, and guess what? In a matter of weeks or so that business would shut down because no one is going to patronize them,”
Right, cuz that's how it worked in the "Old South" that wasn't that long ago. Mm, hmm. NOT. There were plenty of businesses that did not serve blacks, in a part of the country that had more blacks by probably a factor of 10 than does South Dakota.

You said he never claimed that businesses should be allowed to discriminate, you were wrong The very idea of freedom of association is free association, which includes discrimination.

No.
Harrier said that the lawmaker never said that businesses should be able to turn away African-Americans, and thus the thread title is a clear example of spin.
The part about Whites making up 70% of the population in this nation and the fact that just 50 years ago, not serving black people was legal(well, technically it wasnt, but it happened).
You argue that all those places, would close i doubt it, especially in communities that are 90%+ white.
Oh for God's sake. So you all want to keep outdated and unnecessary laws on the books because you have no faith that people can do the right thing? That explains so much about Dems, they think they know everything, and they view this world in a very negative light.
