"Permanent active duty" means that like any other National Guard unit that has been transferred to active duty, the governor of the state is not in operational charge of it.

If she was she would revert back to the days when our military could carry sidearms on bases so they could defend themselves against enemies foreign and domestic.
Soldiers have not been routinely armed on stateside military facilities since the Civil War.

The military is predominantly composed of young men (the average combat soldier is 19 years old) who are selected by various means for aggressiveness rather than passivity. We have quite enough problems every weekend with barfights, barracks fights, DUIs, et cetera, without introducing firearms into the mix.

A police situation is far, far different from a combat situation. We already know the hard way (look at the friendly fire incidents) that tactical operations require tight command and control of fire forces as wel as accurate intelligence on who and where the enemy is. If you don't have that in a situation, it's better to sit tight...and that will always be the case with these kinds of events until police-trained individuals get on scene to make professional evaluations. Facing an enemy who looks just like a friend is absolutely the worst situation a soldier can be in.,

Soldiers are not cops, and a shooting situation in a barracks or the commissary or the theater is not the same as securing a block in enemy territory.

That's a old wives tale that isn't true. At least as president she wouldn't be like putative president Obama, who has a woman who lives in the white house that practices witchcraft.

Yep it just makes sense that your military should be able to defend themselves from each other.

Pardon me for asking but if it's necessary to arm all soldiers due to them shooting each other perhaps there's a larger issue than simply giving them the means to kill each other with abandon every time a soldier gets pizzed at his brethren or OIC.

What do you people use to apply cognitive reasoning, a freak'n sponge? Have you ever asked WHY your military are unarmed when on base and why that has been the norm for most military around the world for decades?

Active duty Israeli defense force are armed because they have constantly been under threat of attack by either terrorist infiltrators or foreign armies fer chrissake!

You gonna arm everyone in your country to protect yourselves from EACH OTHER? How fugged up is that?

So you are saying that while she was Governor she made sure to overturn that 100 year old regulation in the 9 bases in AK?

She also wanted prayer cards reinstated on an Alaskan Airline.
Because after all, everybody knows that prayer is the only thing holding an airplane aloft.
