And actually trending slightly DOWN - with the peak summer price each year since 2011 being less than the peak summer price of the year before.

And since the OP seems to think gas prices are at the whim of the President - THANK YOU OBAMA!!!!!

Somehow, I don't think the OP will "thank Obama" for that.

The difference is state taxes. As a New Yorker, I always buy gas when I can in NJ because the gas tax is less.

Of course it will go down the closer it will be to the mid terms and than rise again....

That's called politics. Obama is not stupid but the ones voting for him are not the smartest to see that.

So following this logic, Bush wanted the Democrats to win in 2008?

What's not "the smartest" is someone who doesn't realize that gas prices pretty much ALWAYS go down as the summer winds down and fall begins - whether it's an election year or not.

The seasons are the same each and every year. We know that in 5 years from now we are going to have seasons so that does not justify such large swings. There is no reason for seasonal swings when they can be planned for years in advance.

The reason we have them is because the markets are designed to abuse them.

What is that suppose to mean? Every single year there are summer blends. This year, next year, the year after. It's something that can be planned for.

This up and down in prices is one of the reasons why the economy can not get a solid footing. Before anyone jumps off the shallow end I am not saying it's the only reason. No, it was not always this way.
