Unfortunately, most folks (and you appear to be one of those) confuse party with ideology.
Liberals ended slavery and brought about great expansions in personal liberty.
Conservatives have fought the expansion of personal liberty at every turn.
The republican party began and existed well into the 20th century as the progressive party, while the democrat party started as the party of slave owners until well into the 20th century, especially in the south.
Sure there were conservative republicans in the time of Lincoln and beyond. I'm sure there were liberal democrats (most likely outside of the south) especially after the war of yankee aggression.
But for both parties, historically they were the opposite in ideology of what we attribute to them today.
It's not correct to say that liberals want to expand personal liberties and conservatives don't. It is more correct to say the each wish to preserve and expand the liberties that promote their ideologies. In addition, there are many variation within each ideology and and general statement wouldn't apply to all followers. However it is fair to say that Liberals wish to limit personal liberties in relation to person protection (gun control), health care (you are forced to buy specific plans), free speech (promoting boycotts against those that don't follow the liberal ideology), having control over ones earnings (the whole wealth redistribution immorality), the right NOT to join a union (forcing everyone at a union plant to join), and the list goes on.
Conservatives do general oppose expansion of personal liberties when that expansion goes against moral or traditional beliefs or when those expansion are not in the public's best interests. Conservatives believe that you have the right to control the wealth that you earn and create. They also believe that you have the right to make decision on your own that effect you provided those decision don't adversely effect others, even if those decision are not what others believe are in your best interest. They believe in the right to protect ones family and belongings. They also believe in protecting those that can't yet protect themselves.
The problem with this ignorant SOB is that he has a bunch of naive 18-22 year old children he's spouting this stuff to. Many are too naive and inexperienced to recognize drivel when they hear it and call him out. Sad to say that there are no checks and balances to counter this kind of stuff. Imagine if he had tried to blame all the country's problems on black or gays...think there might have been a little outrage? Of course, that kind of "free speech" should also be accepted from college professors as well, right?
If the Republicans recapture the Federal government things will regress to the 1880's with crony capitalism, corrupt government and mammon worshipping preachers suppressing any and all dissent. We will have an endless War with Russia over Eastern Europe, health care only for the disserving few and university education limited to the hyper wealthy elite. The rest of us will make do with low wage jobs not taken by a flood of immigrants working for slave wages or soldiering in the Republican Army of God.
This is my optimistic prediction. My pessimistic prediction is really much worse.
It seems that these college students could have saved the price of the creative writing class just by logging onto CD and reading post #11 in this thread. They would be getting the same hallucination that the prof dispenses, only for free.
Well, as long as you think so, it just has to be true.
So now magically the right wingers don't think our universities are just liberal propaganda machines.

In the 1880s our firepower as Dwight Eisenhower once noted was limited to the small cannon and little musket, our mobility was horse powered. Today a single bomb could destroy our largest cities ,we can strike anywhere on the globe in less than an hour and we can cause the death of millions with genetically engineered pathogens! Indeed it could be a lot worse than you can even imagine.

A college professor from Eastern Connecticut University was caught teaching his class that Republicans are “racist, misogynist, money-grubbing people". He also said that they want to suppress the liberal vote. He said things will go back to 1855 if they win it as well. Colleges will also start closing if they take the House and Senate, acccording to him.
The video shows how some colleges have a liberal bias and that they are teaching the wrong thing to students. The professor has since said he was sorry, but that doesn't excuse him for saying something that is incredibility stupid, mean-spirited, and wrong. The university said that this is not their problem and nothing will really be done about it. They said the professors can teach their class the way they want under free speech. While this may be true it dosesn't mean he can try to say every person who isn't a Democrat is bad. If he were a Republican this probably would have went more viral and he be fired or resign from it hurting him. Schools need to be more balanced so they can have a fair amount of convervative and liberal views. Both parties have done their bad things in the past, none of them are perfect, and none of them ever will be.
Republicans are the reason why 1855 is ancient history.
It was the Democrats who wanted to maintain the harsh realities of black persons that existed in 1855.
The Democrats tried to do that post-Reconstruction with their Jim Crow laws.
Republican abolitionists and Republican civil rights activists stopped that nonsense.

Just because one (yes rather nutty) Democrat says something does not mean that every person who is anywhere left of center believes in them. really I thought common sence was still prevalent in this day and age.
