Considering the much of the mainstream media and that especially includes cable and network/broadcast television has been a powerful force behind "marriage equality" and gay rights, taking an anti-homosexual stance is pretty much suicidal for anyone involved with that business. This is especially true of HGTV which has a large number of shows hosted by gays but a decent following in the LGBT community and of course women.

I worked in Hollywood long enough to know that, regardless what socialist BS anyone spouts they couldn't care less if it involves making money. They'd make a romantic comedy about Hitler and Eva Braun if they thought it would buy them a new Porsche and a house in Malibu. This was a purely monetary decision. Negative PR = no advertising.

This was for money and PR reasons.

It was a private business and these two didn't lose any sort of public position for their views. They are free to appeal it if they want as well, but it doesn't seem like they want to.

All In The Family would never have made it into production today.
