With all the new tech coming out and discussions about information security, I thought this was an interesting topic.

For those wondering what AR is.This gives an idea of how many areas are effected.
Mobile apps and tablets are a big area now.
Augmented reality

quote:
Augmented reality (AR) is a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented (or supplemented) by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data.

This is really amazing how quickly and steeply tech has evolved over the years. I remember when beepers were considered high tech and now we have not only computers in our pockets but they interact with real environments. Can portable holograms be far behind to give us an even better view? I think they might!

I think you mean holograph which is diff than hologram, but yeah that would definitely fit in here.

This looks like it will become common place. Between quantum/dna computing, AI and this. I don't think people realize how quickly it can change. All tech, like everything is milked for profit and doled out, but there is some amazing things out there, right now.

This tech is interesting because it should be very prevalent on the front end and really changes people's way of thinking and behavior.

This is getting investment attention it seems. Look at the patents.

Regarding Banking and tech patents, this is also interesting. Anybody seen this?

Here's another article.
The next big thing in tech: Augmented reality | Cutting Edge - CNET ...

quote:
But now augmented reality is about to break out into free space. "AR will be the interface for the Internet of things," said Greg Kipper, author of "Augmented Reality: An Emerging Technologies Guide to AR."

"It is a transition time, like from the command line to graphical user interface," he said. "Imagine trying to do PhotoShop in a command-line interface. Augmented reality will bring to the world things beyond the graphical user interface. With sensors, computational power, storage and bandwidth, we'll see the world in a new way and make it very personal." ...

The future of augmented reality
And where is all this heading over the next few years? It's beginning to look like a real business, just as mobile did nearly a decade ago. Mobile analyst Tomi Ahonen expects AR to be adopted by a billion users by 2020. Intel is betting that AR will be big. The chip maker is investing $100 million over the next 2 to 3 years to fund companies developing "perceptual computing" software and apps, focusing on next-generation, natural user interfaces such as touch, gesture, voice, emotion sensing, biometrics, and image recognition.

Multi-touch holographic interface 'Electronic University' - APEC 2012

To present "Electronic University" system at Far Eastern Federal University during the APEC 2012 summit in Vladivostok Interactive Lab developed a unique solution — panoramic projection screen controlled from multi-touch holographic platform.
Using the futuristic multi-touch interface the presenter could scroll through sections to choose one he wants to speak about. With a fast hand gesture he would then throw the section's icon to the big screen where it would transform into a colorful video about the main features of the system.

This video is older, fuzzy, but interesting nonetheless.

Anyone who pays honest attention to media and casual tech can already see the behavioral primers being implemented.

Imagine these new-fangled rose-colored Google glasses in use by everyone, everywhere at all times- especially inescapable when they become physical implants hard-wired directly into the brain, fused to the cornea. Imagine the hacks, viruses- or just the influence of the normal OS or firmware... truly nightmarish. Look at some of the leaps made in AI, bio-tech and robotics/artificial limbs while at it. Resistance will be futile.

Candyland indeed. What will perceptive reality become at that point? When our limbs, organs can be replaced with minimal effort, when interactive holograms are unnecessary as we can download an interactive sim program into our heads and live a fantasy all while in repose.

From the link I posted earlier.

"Anyone reviewing devices like Google Glass needs to take it to their kids' school before they pass judgement," Lorenzini added. "This is not a device from our time, it's from theirs. They love it, use it effortlessly, and are totally unfazed by ad targeting or privacy concerns. It will be be a natural part of who they are, how they learn, connect and play."

Eventually, wearable technology will become more integrated with the human body. With advances in miniaturization and nanotechnology glasswear will be replaced with contact lens or even bionic eyes that record everything, make phone calls and allow you to use parts of your body, or even your thoughts, to navigate the world.
