As you probably are aware the US still uses capital punishment in these modern times. With our general focus throughout the US being anti-murder and reducing crime, does the fact that we still use capital punishment help or hurt the US? If capital punishment was outlawed for all crimes permanently would the US see any real dramatic changes in crime from it's citizens?

Does the US having capital punishment make our society feel primitive and keep us in old times?

This article made me think:

Opinion: Death penalty is unchristian - CNN.com

There is no correlation between violent crime rates and capital punishment when comparing US states with capital punishment and those without.

What about the fact that the death penalty is much more costly per prisoner executed? It would actually be cheaper to give them a life sentence.

But apparently only in select counties.
15 counties in the US account for 30% of the executions.

("And" most especially, I sure don't need CNN's interpretation of what is and what isn't Christian!)

You don't kill someone (unless it's self defense) .. You stay 'un-killed' yourself!

Why not a CNN article on : 'Killing' the innocent, unborn is ... ?
