What's the old campaign slogan? "It's the economy, stupid." It's not guns, free birth control, immigration reform, it's the economy and jobs, and it's been that way for six years now.
47 percent agree with the statement, “I’ve completely given up on looking for a job.” (7 percent said they “agree completely,” 7 percent “agree a lot,” 15 percent “agree somewhat,” and 18 percent “agree a little.”)
60 percent say looking for work has been harder than expected. 10 percent say it’s been easier than expected.
Nevertheless, 91 percent agree with the statement, “I’m hopeful that I will find a job I really want in the next six months.”
47% of 7 percent is what we're talking about or slightly less than 3.5%.
That's not a lot of people. Also most of them are over the age of 50 while a significant number are married women with small children who's spouse works.

More liberal voters that need to stay attached to the government
82 percent of those receiving benefits said if their unemployment compensation were to run out prior to their finding a job, they would “search harder and wider for a job.”

Reality is irrelevant to conservatives, but if we have a jobs crisis, oh what's the conservative solution cut taxes for rich people.
When GWBush came into the White House with a lower unemployment rate and a surplus, what was his solution cut taxes for rich people and businesses.
It is funny that elected conservatives had their own economic stimulus plans when the recession was in full swing in late 2008, now conservatives have seemingly given up on the idea all together of a jobs or stimulus program.

That number has been more less stead since the last Presidential Election. One would think the administration would think beyond the box to get American Rolling
Wow, math fail. It's not 47% of the population, or even the population that can work (including the employed). It's 47% of the people polled (1,500, good sample) of the 7% unemployed didn't disagree with the statement "I’ve completely given up on looking for a job."
No one was asked if they actually had stopped looking for a job in the poll.
Also 91% in the same sample agreed with the statement they would find a job in the next 6 months. One cannot find a job if they actually stopped looking entirely. This is such basic logical reasoning I am ashamed of some people.

So 47% of the 7% unemployed were not hopeful (3.5%)...3.5% are discouraged about finding a job, and it looks like 9% of those people were not hopeful of getting one or actually stopped. 9% of 3.5% is not 47% of unemployed.
............... now conservatives have seemingly given up on the idea all together of a jobs or stimulus program.
We already spent trillions on jobs and stimulus programs ("shovel ready wasn't as shovel ready as we thought"). And here we are. Where's the money for more shovel ready?

trillions? on jobs and stimulus programs? There was only one stimulus program and it was 787billion and 1/3 of that spending was tax cuts.
The stimulus helped to end the recession and put us on a path of slow growth. A larger stimulus might have given use escape velocity to really ramp up the economy.
Also remember conservatives had their own competing stimulus plans when the President and the Democratic party were proposing their plans.
So again conservatives used to believe in jobs programs and stimulus programs. Now they no longer do.
Yet and still the conservative solution of more tax cuts for rich people isn't really anything.
