Blacks are merely representatives. They aren't the ones creating these ideas and pushing them. Besides, since when did black rappers and solely black rappers speak on behalf of all blacks in America?

In your zeal to trash blacks for something you are missing the point that the music industry has long glorified drug use.

It is nothing new.

"The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia website includes a description of the drug, comparing its high to that of heroin, and noting that from January to July 1987 the coroner's office received "19 fatalities due to this particular combination of drugs."

And these mainstream "rappers" that are controlled by the music industry, like Lil Wayne are not representative of anything in the black community. They are not even representative of their own personhood-sad.

This. The music industry is ultimately behind the promotion of these things, not the "rappers' themselves.

That's false....

the "music industry" is not the same as it was even 10 years ago. Back then an A&R used to pound the pavement and sign local talent. Then when they were handed off to the brass of the label, they would be "cultivated"...

In the 90's there were still 10 or so big record labels....in today's world it is down to 3.

Today it is so much easier for artists to cultivate themselves with the reach of the internet. The advancements in technology have afforded kids with absolutely ZERO means to cut full albums in their bedrooms and go to the label with a finished product that may need marginal editing and sent off to the in-house mastering suite for polishing.

The labels literally have to do nothing because artists are coming to them with milllion + fan bases already.

The only time they need to "plug back" into the "mainframe" is for the distribution channels...but even that is going the way of the tooth fair because of the lack of brick and mortar stores and digital distribution putting that medium out of business more and more each day.

My point???

What you see is closer to the reality than it ever was.

In addition, Molly/Ecstacy (MDAM) is in heavy use too and explicitly glorified.

Anybody care to explain why this is such an apparent phenomenon??
For every one rapper you find that brags about lean or molly, I can list 5/10/15 that don't. It's a subset of rappers that are on that.

I can name them too. There is tons of great hip hop out there.

A subset, yes.

But no other genre of music has a sub-genre of music that has this heavy of a element of drug use that is this explicitly displayed.

No it isn't.

Anyway, Sex, Drugs and Rock n Roll. It's as old as the genre itself. It's not big deal. If people wanna use lean, that's their business. They aren't hurting anyone but themselves.

Not like Johnny Cash or Guns n' Roses ever sang about drug use, nope, no way, not at all.

I guess they rap about subjects they're familiar with? Anyway, what's the "drug" of choice for say, country music or heavy metal (heroin maybe). Killed more people; Alcohol (country music) or Lean (Rap)? Pick your outrage.
