Joey Vento is a really good man. He has done more for his city, in a great way....everyone should read more about him. The only "english" he wants you to speak at his window is the word "cheese steak with or without" maybe learn the word "french fry"!!! It makes the line that wraps around his business on any given night go faster!!!

The sign is "in your face" provocative and ugly. I hate to see the emblem of our county treated with such partisan disrespect. When I was in Quebec, I tried to order my "cafe" and donut en francais....but couldnt really and for the rest of the time I was glad that I was able to order in the language in which I was comfortable. Similarly in Tijuana, I was glad that no one insulted me and tried to force me to speak Spanish.

If we could consider each other
A neighbor a friend or a brother
It could be a wonderful wonderful world

Excellent point! This guy is a businessman. He wants to make money.

In February, the commission found probable cause against Geno's Steaks for discrimination, alleging that the policy at the shop discourages customers of certain backgrounds from eating there
Vento doesn't want to discourage anyone from eating there. He just wants to conduct his business in the language of America. That's English. The city should give this guy a parade and the keys to the city.

This complaint against him is nothing more than PC run amuck.

I don't think it's discriminatory- though I do think the owner is just asking for problems with a sign like that. I certainly wouldn't buy something from there, but I don't fault the owner for having this policy.

However, how do people feel about restaurants and shops where only Spanish is spoken? Or Portuguese or Creole or whatever? People seem to have a HUGE problem with that- but if the owner chooses to, isn't it their store and their choice of what language to use?

I've read about Joey before. He sounds like a true patriot and a great citizen. Whenever I get over to Philly again, I will be sure to stop in & have a good cheesesteak to show him my support
