New Jersey Couple Facing Fine Over Bird Feeder « CBS New York

Quote:
In addition to seed in the feeders, the couple used to scatter peanuts on the ground. A year and a half ago, a town official showed them an ordinance saying birds must be fed from hanging, enclosed feeders. So they got four of these that hold peanuts.
Neighbors complained, and the couple got the ticket.

It seems the issue is feeding wildlife and not the bird feeder.

Quote:
As CBS 2’s John Slattery reported, the Borough of Ramsey told Annette and Alfred Rockefeller they are not just feeding the birds – they are illegally feeding wildlife.

There's nothing about any federal fines or charges in the article, but rather a local ordinance violation. Get your thread title right next time.

Apparently the neighbors are upset because the feeding is attracting a large amount of unwanted wildlife. I can understand why that would be undesirable. The man claims the animals are gathering because of local construction projects, but the food laying around out in the open probably isn't helping the situation.

Nothing wrong with this. It really is a bad idea to attract wildlife in a residential area and feed them.

You've been able to rid your neighborhood of birds?

It isn't about the regular flying birds. It's about the deer and the ducks and the groundhogs and all sorts of other creatures it is attracting.

The elected officials of that town passed that feeding ordinance. They were warned about it and chose not to follow the law. Breaking the law is breaking the law.

Feeding wildlife creates a dangerous dependency. Just like the federal government creates with their social programs. We would not want our wildlife to end up as useless parasites like 47% of our population, now would we?

DO NOT FEED THE WILDLIFE!

You just insulted half of the people on this forum. Incidentally, how much social security tax do those 47% pay. For the bulk of them that work, how are they useless parasites? Perhaps you should go talk to the parents of some working families who bust their butts all week long and tell them how they're useless parasites.

By the way, a lot of retired veterans and current people serving are included in that 47%. While they're risking their lives so people like you can type here, how is it exactly that they're useless parasites. Please tell us.
