The tell-tale sign Republicans expected to lose the Senate in 2006 appeared June 28 of that year. That was when the GOP turned to stunts to save themselves.
Quote:
Today, the Senate is a mirror Image of what it was then. Senate Democrats, expecting to lose, have given up on actual bills intended to become law in favor of more cynical political stunts.
May very well happen, but what Repubs forget it they will not have a super majority and the President still has the power of Veto, meaning you cannot override his Vetos. In the end getting the Senate may be harmful to the future of the GOP because even though they may try to claim otherwise, for the next two years they will be forced to actually do something and the people Will blame them if things do not improve dramatically, they may have been better to gain the Senate in 2016 so they had a better chance at the Whitehouse. So what happens in 2016, lose the House to the Dems and lose again for the Whitehouse, very possible unless things improve dramatically, otherwise the Dems will use the GOPs own tactics against them. So, be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.
And if the Republicans do win the Senate, President Obama will use his veto power repeatedly, while all the while his acolytes will say it is a "Do nothing Congress". You really can't win with some people.
It is a trivial issue. You are talking 51-52 seats, while facing severe 2016 GOP Senate losses as the class of 2010 defends seats in BLUE states en masse. As for the WH, the GOP has no shot until they rebrand..drastically.
I do not think the {D} know they are going to lose. In another thread Grimes {D} KY lead all Senate hopefuls in fund raising. The {D}s must think Mitch can be toppled to throw in 4 million dollars, this could be the seat that the {D}s keep control of the Senate.

When the GOP wins the Senate, there will be nothing to stop Barack from being impeached and convicted. Even the threat will keep him quiet until he is flushed in 2016.
