If the majority of people apparently do not know what is good for them in electing leaders why should they be responsible for choosing what is the best course to take for everyone? The mob should not tell other people that don't want to go along with it because they know it is wrong. There are more women born than men. In theory they should have the upper hand in voting. Is it fair?

So, what are you proposing? A monarchy?

Well, you do know how to type out nonsense.

Sounds like every authoritarian dictator lover in history. The people (or the colonies if you go back farther, or the peasants even farther) don't know what's best for them. Lets put a ruler in place that can do whatever they want and used armed force to counter any threats to their power. Such as the people wanting self rule.

Quite frankly, I think it's disgusting that Americans like the OP have this mindset. Contemplating authoritarian rule à la an absolute monarchy or North Korea is the most un-American thing an American can say. This country was founded on the very basis of self rule and was contrary against monarchy and autocracy from the start.

Not sure what point you're trying to make but you're wrong.
Women don't outnumber men until age 60 or so.

the problem with voting is not the women or men , democratic or republic. its the second tuesday of the month. most people have jobs or too tired to fight the crowd.

voting needs to be weekend, in a 24 hour period lets ay new york midnight to new york midnight , so how ever the rest of the country falls, all polls would close at the exact same second, so now one could claim winner five hours different. that would give day shift time to vote, night shift time to vote.

the way it is today voting is catered to the unemployed and retired. Of course the unemployed going vote liberal

Extremist loons love to think if they have a leader that thinks just right (like them) everything will be better.

What has happened in the past is that actual dictators use extremists to strong arm votes, dissuade those critical, and provide manpower.

Once they are in power those same people are a political liability and too nuts to control, because they are nuts, so they are purged.

You do know that the US is not a democracy, right?

This is why the founding fathers built in mechanisms which try to preserve the voice of the minority.

The only thing they couldn't prevent is cronyism and corruption. If people in power are bent on total power, they'll figure out a way to abuse any system. All of us are paying the price for the decisions made by a minority; the political class and corporate elitists.

Something that gives me hope is the fact that both sides of the political spectrum have spoken up against the premise of this thread. Ultimately, the US form of government is the last best hope for the preservation of freedom, if it isn't subverted as Franklin warned.

Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch. America is a republic not a democracy, it's in the constitution (article 4, section 4)

Frederic Bastiat once said the tyranny of the majority would be greater than the tyranny of kings and emperors.
