I believe the threat to his life would have continued had they gotten away.
Minority Report was a good movie, but that's all it was.... a movie.....
Quote:
Minority Report is a 2002 American film. It is set primarily in the year 2054, where "PreCrime", a specialized police department, apprehends criminals based on foreknowledge provided by three psychics called "precogs".
That's not necessarily true!
I have a second cousin who lives in Detroit. About a decade ago, he came home to find a guy burglarizing his home, and the robber ran off.
A few hours later, he came back to finish what he had started. My cuz hear him trying to break in, and when the guy did, my cuz shot him dead while standing on the stairway. He anticipated the guy would be back.
No happy ending to this story, though. He and his old mother were living in the house, and they both loved it. Before his father died, they were forced to sell it when some hard times hit, and his Dad set out to buy it back someday, as soon as he could.
He got it done, too, and they all rejoiced that they were able to move back in. By the time of the killing, his Dad and sis were both long gone, and his old mother couldn't shake her fear someone else would try to break in afterward.
Both were reminded of what happened every time they went up or down the stairs, and both re-lived that terrible moment every time. Within 9 months, they both could take it any longer, and moved out a second time, never to return.
His mom is now gone, and my cousin hasn't felt at home anywhere else ever since.
It's amazing the number of people who think it is ok to chase a person into an ally and shoot them in the back and then drag then back towards their home.
You seem to be forgetting she BROKE into his house and BEAT him ... Death is EXACTLY what she deserved.

I wasn't disagreeing that they might have returned. Sure, that's possible. However, we aren't allowed to shoot someone just because they could decide to come back.

I don't think anyone is disagreeing with you on that. However, as far as the law is concerned, the man didn't have a legal right to use deadly force at the moment he did.
80year old man attacked in his own home, beaten and body slammed to floor with enough force to break his collar bone is able to reteat to another room to get a gun, chases subjects out of his house and shoots at them fleeing. He wasnt in his right mind and the criminals created that situation. He "might" be charged but I doubt he will be convicted of anything.
Dont burglarize and terrorize someone if you dont want to possibly be shot or killed.
This. He'll get charged, the case won't go anywhere though.
I don't have any sympathy for her. It also turned out she wasn't pregnant. Female criminals will use any cop out to get out of any situation.
But most likely, the homeowner will be prosecuted unfortunately. California has some skewed laws regarding self-defense. Criminals have more rights than normal people.

I'm with you on this. The reality is that the idiots that broke into this man's house have THEMSELVES to blame for all that was inflicted upon them, even if they screamed "Please don't shoot me" at the top of their lungs.
If they hadn't broken into his house, he wouldn't have shot them.
