Ask the Poles, Dutch, Belgians, English, French, Norwegians, Russians, and Chinese whether they should have spent more money on defense prior to WW2.
When the time comes for when you NEED a bomber, it is far to late to design and produce one.
Weird example, seeing as the British bombers that actually carried out the strategic bombing in WWII were mostly Lancasters with Mosquitos as spotters, both developed after the initiation of hostilities.
so question why cant the government build their own bombers instead of buying them from these companies if the profit margin on them is 100% when the real cost is 200-300 million?
The defense-industry lobby. And if the government built them, it'd be socialist. Socialism=Pol Pot, remember?
It will only be inevitable if people allow it to be.
Burdell these are the facts as I see it. Without some kind of concession by Iran which I don't see forthcoming Israel is going to act on their own which is going to lead to a much wider conflict in the Middle East. The US will be unable to stand by on the sidelines becsue such a conflict can easily get way out of control in a real hurry. These are possibly the most dangerous times we are living in.
Iran's new president is much more willing to reconcile with the West, as well. I don't think a lot of warmongering conservatives know that.
They don't wanna know it because it makes more sense to build 100 550 million dollar bombers...nevermind that peace is much cheaper. Peace doesn't enrich enough defense cronies.
Iran tried desperately to get in bed with us after 9/11, but the Bush Administration would have none of it.

If the US stepped in, then it would get way out of control. This is the most self-contradictory post I have seen in a long time. Iran is not some country filled with radical extremists. They talk a big game sometimes, but won't back it up. Because of that, Israel won't do anything unprovoked, either.
No, I think the most dangerous times were back in the 60's.
Except the B2 is already acceptable to use. It's the most deadly bomber on Earth. Are we just building bigger for the sake of building bigger, like a ****-measuring contest?
The biggest bunker buster it can carry is 30K lb. It's a single bomb and depending on the facility may not be big enough. These weapons create enormous pressures inside the earth, basically a small earthquake. The bigger the bomb the more pressure it creates.

There's no logical reason in the world why we should let what Israel does/doesn't do dictate our own actions. As far as I'm concerned we should tell every country in the ME they have 2 choices, they can learn to live together or they can die together. And if any mess with the US they will be vaporized.
