Default Reporters Arrested in Missouri

"Mostly peaceful protesters in the St. Louis suburb, symbolically holding their hands in the air, were met with tear gas and smoke bombs fired so regularly that several reporters on scene noted it was hard to breathe. "****, ****," shouted msnbc.com'smaine Lee, as his network attempted to reach him amid an onslaught late in the evening. Stun grenades were fired, and police wearing camouflage fatigues and riot gear formed lines in the streets.

A group of at least 70 heavily armed SWAT officers with armored vehicles responded to an apparently peaceful protest Wednesday afternoon and ordered the crowd to disperse, HuffPost’s Ryan Reilly reported. The sight of camouflaged officers training automatic weapons at unarmed civilians focused unprecedented attention on the increasing militarization of policing in America."

At least two reporters were assaulted and detained by police, and a St. Louis alderman was arrested for what police said was unlawful assembly. Local elected official Antonio French, who has been covering the protests on social media, was arrested and charged late Wednesday, his wife told local radio station KMOV. He was still in jail as of Thursday morning. The national reporters were released relatively quickly without charge.

HuffPost reporter Ryan J. Reilly and Washington Post reporter Wesley Lowery were detained by police after they surrounded and invaded a McDonalds where the two were working and ordered them to leave. Police slammed Lowery into a drink machine and pushed Reilly’s head against the glass on the way out of the restaurant.

"They essentially acted as a military force. It was incredible," Reilly said. "

The militarization of our local police forces and stripping away of our basic rights to assemble and to have a free press is on full display. Missouri and Fergeuson should be ashamed that they have failed to de-esculate the situation amidst what looks to be a cover-up. This Officer murdered an unarmed man with his arms raised in surrender according to many direct eye-witness accounts.

I applaud the protesters, activists and reporters for exposing what our nation has become.

You applaud people looting, throwing Molotov cocktails, shooting an innocent woman, throwing bricks, and burning down businesses?

I'll always side with the people over the state but you should learn the difference between protesters and rioters. Police were tear-gassing and dispersing peaceful protesters and detaining reporters while destroying their equipment. They even shot people on their own private property with tear-gas.

Ferguson tear gas video: Angry, but apparently unarmed, residents face attack.

If you are OK with that, maybe The United States just isn't the country for you. If you are NOT OK with this, take a stand with your fellow Americans. E-mail the Governor, Police Chief and any local Politician. Demand the murder suspects name is released.

What is happening in Ferguson right now should scare the crap out of every American. We no longer have local police departments, we have military police forces. We have thread after thread here on C-D about the violence in the Mideast, and how we have to fight them there to protect our freedom at home, but very little outrage over what is happening in towns and cities across this country. Americans need to wake up to the very real threat to our freedom brought about by the militarization of our police forces which is occurring right here in our own back yard as we speak.

I've noted many times that this is the natural end result when authorities are not held accountable for their illegal actions. This includes everything from getting away with crimes others wouldn't to lying to us.

Laws are not just meant for the little people.

Yes, the article listed here is likely overlooking the violence from the people's side but people are going to fight back against authorities getting away with things they get arrested for.

1) why do police need to wear camo? What jungle are they fighting in?
2) what the hell is an "unlawful assembly?" See US Constitution, Amendment I

I don't care much for that attorney, I think his name is Crump? He's the same one that represented the Trayvon Martin murder. I'm sure he's a very good attorney and all but imo, he doesn't have good diction.
