Cervical Cancer in Female Partners of Uncircumcised Men

This is in reference to pre-cancerous lesions on the cervix:

" In New South Wales, Australia they have increased by 32% over a 10 year period, with 8 in 1000 having a high-grade lesion in 2005. This increase coincides with a rise in uncircumcised males in the sexually-active population."

"In 2002, a large, well-designed multinational study by the International Agency for Research on Cancer published in the New England Journal of Medicine has irrefutably implicated the foreskin in cervical cancer [Castellsague et al., 2002]. This involved 1,913 couples in 5 global locations in Europe, Asia and South America. Penile HPV was found in 20% of uncircumcised, but only 5% of circumcised men (odds ratio = 0.37). The women were more than 5.6 times more likely to have cervical cancer if their partner was uncircumcised."

Remind me to thank my MIL next time I talk to her.
Great post!!!

Since some religions choose to do so, would it not infringe on religion to have a law passed to prohibit the practice?

while babies have no choice in this decision it is probably less painful as an infant vs an adult. I don't actually disagree, the practice is archaic and mostly unneeded. given a choice i would not have chosen to do so, but that decision was made for me long ago.

For MY generation the circumcision rate was close to 100%, I don't feel inferior to uncircumcised males, why should I, of my generation most females have not experienced a uncircumcised male first hand, to US it is "normal".

I think a lot of these people that feel it is so horrible go to a MEDICAL website or do some research at a Library by their home(there will be one in EVERY college) and see what Circumcision really is.

Off topic slightly, but I was immediately reminded of the very real possibility that there might not be male genitalia to mutilate in the future. Male testosterone has dropped off nearly fifty percent in the last fifty years. Because of our "food industry" is only possible by absurd level of introduction of estrogen throughout the industry. It's a catch 22 that scientists have no idea how to fix at the moment. Remove the estrogen from the food industry and nearly 70% of the world will starve to death. Keep it and we will evolve into a unisex creature...

Excellent reply...It isn't enumerated in the Constitution so therefore isn't a talking point.

Why did you start this thread?

With America's love affair with Israel (and by extension all things Jewish), I doubt you'll much of a change anytime soon. Circumcision was introduced to the West by Jewish doctors who promoted it as healthier in order to get Americans one step closer to Hebrew conversion.

Why does somebody else's religious beliefs give them the "right" to cut of and permanently remove perfectly healthy and functioning parts of my body?

All I can say on the matter is what about when your daughter gets married to an uncircumcised male and she comes down with cervical cancer or human papilloma virus. Will you think any differentially then I bet you do.
