That comes at no surprise to me. First, I think that Obama's run for president put a focus on US race relations. Then during his administration, incidents such as Trayvon Martin, Professor Gates became even more blown up because Obama would make press statements about the situation, and make them even more about race. Then there was a backlash of non-blacks being fed up with all of the African Americans' tantrums and riots using the race card as their excuse. It's sad that the Ferguson riots were no surprise to anyone because that is what blacks do when they are unhappy with a situation. And they smash and loot without apologies or feelings of guilt from innocent shopkeepers in their neighborhood.

I also think that white liberals thought that by voting in Obama as president, it was reparations for slavery in America, that it would make the lot of the black community better in a big way. But clearly that hasn't happened. I also have yet to see any young African Americans trying to emulate Obama and Michelle in mannerisms and lifestyle. They still seem to be more impressed with the likes of black rappers and athletes.

Race relations got worse but it wasn't because of President Obama. It was because of the white supremacist that hate the fact that their president is black and him and his attorney general standing up to white supremacist when they have to. There's also the fact that these types are upset about the executive branch standing up for voting rights, women's rights, and civil rights...

Amen.

Obama has fanned the flames of racial discontent in this country. And Eric Holder's comment last week, that he's "Attorney General, but also a black man...and this [Michael Brown's death] is personal."

Holy cow. If white AG had said that, the media would be calling for his head on a platter.

Their outrageous behavior does make it seem almost as though they wish to foment a race war.

When Newton, MA voted in its first black mayor, Obama called him up to congratulate him. I was highly offended by that gesture. Obama should have been colourless in his leadership style, instead he is the one who keeps focusing on his blackness and making US race relations more polarized and volatile.

I do think that many blacks in America naively thought that Obama was going to give them more entitlements. I have also read that those in Africa, especially in Kenya, thought that Obama being president was going to result in more handouts to their countries.

BTW there should have been more repercussions over Obama's illegal family members being allowed to stay in the US. WTF? Again, Obama acting more like a king than a president.

And, yet white politicians have said many times they have a personal interest in the advancement of equal rights for women because they have daughters and granddaughters. No one bats an eye at statements like that.

Its hypocritical to say that black politicians cannot call something personal because a situation or some part of it resonates with their personal experience.

Why is 2009 significant? How about race relations gotten worse since 1865.

Just WOW!!! Sadly these type of opinions are quite common among those that are ignorant of history, oblivious to what's going on around them, and lack the understanding of how different types of governments work...

That said, there would be NO reason to personally call and congratulate someone that has broken the glass ceiling if there wasn't a glass ceiling to began with! A ceiling that the people you so adore took the time to create. Regarding your statement about blacks voting based on entitlements!!! That premise is equally ridiculous. Blacks (along with others) voted for Obama not because of "entitlements" but because he was the best option available. Why would anybody in their right mind vote for either John McCain or Romney?
