On a serious note it is interesting to see that atheists have the lowest rates of divorce and incarceration in jails. It goes against everything that religion teaches people as far as needing a higher being to keep you in check.

Some of these facts are not well known and get buried in the barrage of the pious pooh slinging aganst atheists from hardcore religious types.

Not by much, and if you look at the (rather large) margin of error, they are about the same.. Shouldn't be all that surprising, considering that Atheists are a minuscule minority. Either way you go this belongs in the religion, not the political, forum.
It's so much better that facts come out so that people can examine what's wrong and make corrections. Why pretend night is day.

StopTheReligiousRight.org had some scathing comments as well:
"We hear an awful lot from conservatives in the Bible Belt and on the TV about how we all should be living. Certainly a culture that teaches the conservative religious values of the Christian right must have clean living written all over it. And lots of ripe fruit from their morally superior lives abounding."
"It doesn't. Far from it. People that talk the loudest may be the ones walking the slowest. Joining its history of Biblically correct bigotry and discrimination, it is an area with the highest divorce, murder, STD/HIV/AIDS, teen pregnancy, single parent homes, infant mortality, and obesity rates in the nation. As a region, the Bible Belt has the poorest health care systems and the lowest rates of high school graduation." 12

This section is titled "Politics and Other Controversies"... This is a controversial issue and thus belongs here. You as a moderator are supposed to be indifferent, but seeing your location and opinion coincide with one another, and these opinions are threatened by the facts in this topic of choice I could see where you'd be somewhat defensive in regards to this topics positioning in one of the more frequented places in these forums.

Great link thanks. Just as I suspected the Bible Belt is full of moral degenerates who throw stones at blue states but cant hold our jock straps when it comes to walking the walk of morality. Maybe we dont spend as much time talking about church because we arent as busy sinning as those trolls!

- we are talking rates, not totals. What has the low atheist number got to do with it? The margin or error applies to both atheists and religious.
- imho, it is a controversial topic that fits equally well on both forums. Suggest leaving it here where it started. Maybe I am mistaken but mods here tend to lock things less easily than in other forums - makes for more lively discussions even if a mod has a different opinion and is privately gnashing his/her teeth.
