A man walks down a crowded street. He falls into a manhole.
Liberals in the crowd throw him a rope or ladder to help him climb out. Conservatives stand back and proclaim... "see, this is why people should watch where they are going. They won't fall in holes." They continue on about their day.
Liberals want to protect the poor and vulnerable from the rich and powerful.
Conservatives want to protect the rich and powerful from the poor and vulnerable.
But we're too busy arguing over petty culture wars.

Liberals - would stand and wait for the police or fire department to show up because after all people can't help themselves or others. The liberals would be loathe to take advantage of a gasoline powered truck nearby with a ladder because it isn't green enough and the ladder hadn't been inspected by OSHA.
Conservatives - would immediately help the man marshaling the people and resources near by. They would even use a gas guzzling vehicle nearby if necessary.
The conservatives would stop the liberals from giving the man a rope or a ladder because the man could have spinal injuries. We would n't want to be sued by a liberal lawyer because we moved the man and contributed to his injuries. Instead a conservative talks the dolts in going into the man hole to check on the man and call 911. They check the mans vitals, keep him warm and wait for the ETs to arrive.
It was probably a city EPA worker who left the manhole cover off because they were going to flush the sewer so because of their negligence, the person who fell into the sewer can now litigiate their way to a million dollar settlement from the city.
As a liberal how long of a rope to you carry around for just this contigency? What if the person who fell into the hole was on their way to a T.E.A. party rally?
