You can be guaranteed that the 566.6 million is not the final cost. the way the government estimates infrastructure cost, 566.6 million is only a small downpayment.
Oh yeah, sure let's dedicate the gas tax to rebuild infrastructure.... we'd be better off letting green trolls with red hats and a white owl's feather build bridges and subways for our souls.
Yes. The subway will benefit Boston's economy. Why are you complaining about infrastructure?
Look on the bright side. May be an opportunity for some one to manufacture nets to catch those jumping out of windows protesting long hours with low pay.
Subway cars are built by many different companies, Alstom (French), Kawasaki and Italy, etc. I assume that they award a contract based on price and performance and many of the cars are built here in the US. Definitely not a liberal or conservative issue.
It amazing how many nuts here don't even bother to read the posts before theirs, refuting the exact points they knee jerk typed after seeing the first post. Everyone has an agenda. The subway cars are being built in the US!!
So more and more things are from China now. Not just your cell phones and laptops.
BOSTON (AP) - A Chinese government-owned rail company was awarded a $566.6 million Massachusetts state contract on Wednesday to build subway trains for the "T," the nation's oldest subway system, despite concerns from local activists about China's human rights record as well as complaints from competitors that the company's winning bid was unrealistically low.

i'm all for them taking the lowest bid (I don't pay taxes to keep some numb nuts employed) but I hope they have controls to make sure the bid isn't crap. . as the competitors allege
I'm just as worried that the Chinese just paid off the right official
About 40 Chinese cities have subways already or under construction. It makes sense to choose a Chinese firm. They actually have more up-to-date experience than other countries.
Here is the first liberal excuse. I wonder which one will be next?
BTW - For those touting the Chinese will be building them here, sure that is better than being made over there. However the primary profits will be going back to China, and I seriously doubt any of the jobs here will be union jobs. Otherwise they would never be able to produce such a low bid. Still the unions will remain in bed with the (D's).
What excuse? It is a fact, I wish we did build subway cars in the US by an American run company, but unfortunately have a company like that. We do have a US company finally making streetcars in the US.
Maybe if we invested more in subways and metro rail more in this country, we would have a real market for a US company to manufacture subway cars.
Outrageous. Bostonians need to protest en masse. Chinese are buying up our country. This is yet another example.
Another example of what? The failure of "gun-boat" diplomacy?
What are you going to do when India starts "buying up" your country?
Near the end of this Century, you'll have Africans buying up your country.
Anyone notice a common theme here?
The US tried to murder Prime Minister Nehru and Premier Chou En Lai, and then actually succeeded in murdering a number of heads-of-State in Africa in addition to numerous attempts.
Another common theme is none of those States ever tried to murder a US president.
Interesting....
