The Obama administration has been pushing the governors of New York and New Jersey to reverse their decision ordering all medical workers returning from West Africa who had contact with Ebola patients to be quarantined, an administration official said.

But on Sunday both governors, Andrew M. Cuomo of New York and Chris Christie of New Jersey, stood by their decision saying that the federal guidelines did not go far enough.

The states may not have taken this measure if the statements out of the government hadn't been so inept and contradictory.

How much compensation will NJ have to pay the nurse for holding her captive for 21 days?

Beyond paying lost wages; nothing. That lady was under quarantine, NOT "captivity" like as in thrown in jail with general population waiting to be charged. Sheesh!

I heard that in Africa they ask about being exposed to Ebola victim and will not let you board if so. I read that the man who died lied on a form about being exposed by contact and could have faced charges in Africa. We also detain mental cases in every state I am aware of for public safety. This is not false imprisonment at all.

Best statement in the article:

Philosophically how is the actions of the Governors any different from a state or city setting a higher minimum wage? It is our system with the local government going beyond the federal. Although I suppose the ACLU may want to sue to break a local quarantine as false imprisonment.

Remember the GOP fought the President on the Surgeon General and therefore we don't have one - how silly does that look now?

The nurse is correct - she's tested negative twice - a total over-reaction. How is there no outcry from all the strict constitutionalist that her basic rights as a US citizen have been denied?

If you can do this, then, how about putting the national guard around states who chose to reject Obamacare and deny basic medical care and screening to it's citizens. That's right up there with Christie's logical thinking...
