Personally, I think they are just looking for something self-congratulatory that they can put on a green bag, a tee shirt or a bumper that tells the world how enlightened they are.
Every so often we get these hand-wringing pieces from liberals, but from my perspective liberals have won every battle and are close to winning the war. Ruth Bennett, a local libertarian here who used to run for office, pointed out that the socialists in America generally died out as a political force because the Democratic party adopted most of their program if not all.
Winning the fight for power is entirely different from "winning" in terms of achieving outcomes. While they promise to make things better, the only actual outcome is always to make things worse. We're all but bankrupt and adding more debt insanely fast. We have industrialized every last item we need and produce it with efficiency that's mind boggling, but we're still broke, because government wastes EVERY iota of profit and then some. The constant drumbeat of "no accountability and no responsibility" on the part of the individual has destroyed our culture, our civilization is collapsing like an imploded skyscraper. The fight for power has nothing to do with the virtue of having it, nor the validity of what you do when you have it. The outcome, however, is as unavoidable as the sinking of the Titanic, once it struck the iceberg.

By nature, conservatives choose to change slowly, deliberately, and tentatively. They only want to do what's proven. Which is an excellent philosophy of conservatorship. However, it is not an ideology, and it isn't really have one. The meaning of conservative is that inherently, they do not make large leaps or big changes.
Notice how liberals here dismiss every who opposes them. Not attempts to convince, dismisses.
Liberals have a certain, unwavering belief that those who oppose them deserve no consideration, since they are lesser than them, and therefore, merely obstacles on their grand path to paradise.
Or, as Stalin supposedly said: "To make an omelette, you have to break a few eggs".
Like the author of the article effectively said. You take yourself way too seriously. And, look way down your snooty nose at the lesser, non liberal, progressives of the world. The god protects line, was simply a throw away line. Needed to set up the libs and pwogs cannot be saved; from themselves.
All of you lib/pwog posters take screen names entirely too literally. I know you think you are cute with the weak pot shots at what you think is behind the screen name. But, you are way off the mark. Most mirror gazers can't see anything other than their self-perceived cleverness.

The left embraces the oldest system of community, the tribe. They believe that the rights of the individual are subordinate to that of the tribe. The outgrowth of this system is a feudal system where the "government" takes the place of the King and the people are subjects to the hierarchy.
This country was founded on a Libertarian ideal that self determination and the sovereignty of the individual were the natural rights of every man. Unfortunately, the left has undermined that system until we have now a fascist system where the wealthy own government and government is master of the people.
