Yes,the British press is a bit more ballsy than our's and no Kim Kardashian BS wither..as long as you can avoid the drivel about the "royal family"...ick.
I was thinking about the financial times and the bbc. Tabloids are stupid, whether british or american (or swedish).
Fine print says 127 people were polled ( out of 315 million).
Depending upon the sample criteria, 127 might well be more than enough sample size. Believe it or not, the math and statistics guys (all of whom are math guys for the most part) have studied this for decades and for the most part one can be assured that the poll results are legitimate within the margin of error.
But it is good to be skeptical, and read the premises and the criteria used to choose the sample.

Lmao..well,how "financial" of you I was thinking more of their take on world news events..never looked at more than the cover of a "tabloid" in a grocery store checkout line myself
A scientific poll was done concerning people's perceptions of certain issues versus the actual numbers. The result was most people either vastly underestimated or overestimated certain numbers of issues like immigrant population, Muslim population, unemployment, etc. What stood out to me was of the 14 countries surveyed, the US was the 2nd most ignorant country, behind Italy, and ahead of South Korea. Two examples I noticed; Americans think 15% of the US population is Muslim, but the reality is only 1% of Americans identify as Muslim. Another one, 32% of the US is foreign born (no doubt this number is inflated thanks to Hispanophobia), but 13% is the real number. There's more in there that just shows Americans in a pretty bad light about most hot button issues, especially in regards to teenage pregnancy and unemployment. Seems like the media is failing us across the entire political spectrum if the numbers are this bad
First of all its not a "scientific" poll, its just a poll.
These types of polls have no more credibility than polls posted on this site. They may give you a good indication of what the people that peruse that specific venue may or may not know but it indicates absolutely nothing about the general population.
Yes, the U.S. media is totally failing us. It used to be that journalists, as a general rule, adhered to the 5 W's. ( Who, What, Where, When, Why and sometimes How)
In todays news your lucky to get 3 of the 5 and even then it has to fit a predetermined narrative.
If you don't have to take your boots off to count to twenty then you should thank the Liberals then I guess,eh?
Unfortunately, 74% of all 12th graders and 93% of Black 12th graders pretty much have to take their shoes off to count to twenty. Look at the NAEP results for 12th grade math proficiency:
the US media by and large sell fear because fear sells stuff. Everything from ABC to the Weather channel sell fear. Even local stations pot a robbery, murder or fire before anything even remotely good, except for HS football results in the Midwest, so no wonder most of us are wrong about most everything.
Listen to the news and you would think ISIS is about to invade us or Ebola was as deadly as driving drunk. simply a case of Garbage In/Garbage out or remembered.
