The Chinese saw the sky for the first time in decades - all by design:

Job No. 1 has been clearing the capital's notoriously polluted skies. More than 800 factories — some several hundred miles away — have been ordered to close. Construction sites in and around the capital, which can generate haze-inducing dust, have been shut down. Municipal officials have instituted traffic restrictions lasting 10 days, allowing personal cars on the road only every other day, based on whether the license plate ends in an odd or even number.

To further reduce traffic and pollution, authorities have given six-day vacations to tens of thousands of civil servants and employees at state-owned enterprises as well as to teachers. Government workers as far away as Langfang (31 miles southeast) and Baoding (87 miles southwest) have also been granted time off. Some private businesses have followed suit.

I'm sure Obama thanked Xi for the clean air.

What people seem to be missing here is that it isn't what we think, it's that the Chinese were offended. They called him a "careless rapper" and "idler". The libs love to go on and on about how other countries don't have any respect for America, but they give a pass when another country is offended by what the clown did here.

Quote:
"We made this meeting so luxurious, with singing and dancing, but see Obama, stepping out of his car chewing gum like an idler," wrote Yin Hong, a professor of journalism at Beijing's Tsinghua University...
THAT is what the uproar is about. Leave it to the libs to miss the point. Again.

Having said that, nicotine is not easy to get over, but he could have at least not strolled in, smacking that gum around. He should have been more discreet.

and PROPER etiquette.

EVERY message is gone over and over to ensure what is written is done exactly right.

The Sect. of State and EVER Ambassador is briefed on what words to use and NOT use.

In the world of foreign affairs these thing mean a LOT.

The WH has a Protocol Officer and staff.

If O isn't going to use them, maybe we should just get rid of them.

If these things are so meaningless, maybe we should fire all those who are responsible for protocol.

But, the again Obama doesn't CARE about how others think of our relations with other countries. He only cares about himself.

If it is petty to point out our President's lack of manners, oh well.

Presidents are given a briefing on the culture and customs of the foreign country they are visiting prior to their visit, either Obama did not pay attention or thinks he knows everything and does not need to be briefed. It is generally considered disrespectful to chew gum in front of foreign dignitaries.
