'Federal Aid' is a euphemism for the transfer of taxpayer money from corrupt federal officials to corrupt state and local officials.

The governor of NYS doesn't give a crap of the people of the area. It's mostly smaller towns south-west of Buffalo. If it's not NYC and the surrounding area, or Albany, the rest of NYS can go F themselves as far at that governor is concerned. Jr. is no different than daddy.

It seems that another region learns. If you are counting on someone else ;your in trouble. You and your local emergency management is the difference between a disaster and a tragedy as most learned in Katrina.FEMA ws what 35 or so employee in Washington with a lot of contractors/ Still is pretty much but now they are not even a single agency with single mission which was always after disaster relief .Local does the prep and in disaster relief. Nor are they a insurance replacement. If your lucky; you'll be one of the forgotten disaster areas; as they are call meaning you and local management were prepared. Sandy basically only hit with tropical storm winds and surge not thought about before hand; really.

What do you want the federal government to do? Call up the Federal Snow Plow Depot 'cause it has idle drivers standing by? Bus welfare recipients up to Buffalo with snow shovels?
It's Buffalo ...in winter ...with snow. They can handle it, they haven't asked for aid.

Clearly Ericthebean is wanting for his big government to come in and make everything right. Sorry, Ericthebean, that's not how things work. Stop trying to grow federal government into our states.

Whatever happened to "We're from the government and we're here to help" being oh-so-scary? Situational ethics rule supreme, seems like.

Yes NY is handling it ok for now. I think if the OP is trying to sound like Kanye West during Katrina, that is quite a stretch.

"Cuomo must formally request the declaration before President Obama acts. His office did not return a request for comment, but he said during a media briefing Friday that he’s spoken to the White House and that Buffalo could qualify for federal aid."
