yes restaurants are open...yes lodging is open....do you expect it to be closed...guess you never travel...

so we should all be happy that we can stay in mom's basement playing the xbox we just go a deal on, to numb our brains with games....way to go
OK, I think I see:
Walmart open on a holiday, BAD!
Red Lobster open on a holiday, GOOD!
Kmart open, BAD!
Holiday Inn open, GOOD!
albertson's, IGA, Safeway, open, BAD!
Red Robin open, GOOD!
Sears open, BAD!
McDonald's open GOOD!
ETC.

In general, retail stores open, BAD, penalize them by making them pay triple time, no matter what a Union Contact says.
However, restaurants, motels, hotels, hospitals, etc. are GOOD to have open, so they can just pay time and a half.

Then don't shop on Thanksgiving, it is your choice which days are important to you, not something that should be forced onto just retailers because you don't like them being open on your special day.

If people didn't want stores open on Thanksgiving, no one would have gone shopping on Thanksgiving.

I'm sorry, which part of the Constitution says that government gets to dictate when you spend time with friends and friendly?

Rejecting dictatorship...

Actually I have to say that I actually enjoyed going shopping late Thursday after my nap from dinner rather than get up extremely early Friday morning to go with my wife.
I don't think you can generalize about conservatives on this issue. I am willing to bet MOST conservatives would vote NO on this proposal.

I wasn't generalizing, I never stated all or most, I was just stating conservatives that believe this.

I support the idea in general, but why does the bill focus on just retail? Countless other jobs require work on holidays, many without holiday pay or compensating time off (mine included).

I honestly don't get this Thanksgiving thing. Why Thanksgiving? Why not Labor Day, or Memorial Day?

@Happy Texan-the OP is hardly a liberal.

Its tempting to agree with that notion. However, I would just like to see the consumers cease to participate in the Thanksgiving/Black Friday ridiculousness. It's gotten WAY out of hand.

Based on the numbers that came out it seems as if it's already underway.

You can't discriminate against all emergency workers that always have worked to start with. Its called selfishness;plain and simple.
