I wish I could pull out my local newspaper classified ads. $8 an hour $9 an hour......WHOA get ready $10 an hour. Are you people serious? Give me the F and get the **** outta here with that insult.
Our "needs" nowadays far exceed those of 50 years ago. We had one tv for the entire house, a 20", no remote. No cable to pay for, no big screens to buy, no latest ipad and iphone to buy with cell and internet service. Often there was one family car. Eating out was usually only on special occaisions or on road trip vacations. This was middle class life that millenials are so envious of.
BUT THE DEFINITION OF MIDDLE CLASS CHANGES WITH THE TIMES. EACH GENERATION HAS BEEN ABLE TO AFFORD THINGS THAT WERE LUXURIES IN THE PAST.
What if millennials couldn't even afford electricity or cars? Would you say, "Welp, you can afford shelter, running water, and gas. That's what the middle class had in the 1910's." No, of course you wouldn't say that! And yet, people were perfectly happy with what they had at the time. Why? Because they never experienced having electricity in their homes, or driving cars, or internet, or whatever.
What you are saying USED to be true. It's not anymore, wages are not keeping up with inflation across the Country. It's been a downward spiral for years. Gets worse every year. I myself have not gotten a raise in 7.5 years.
I never mentioned wages. But, if we were living like we did back then, very scaled back and in the smaller homes that we did back then, with one car, etc. it is more possible to live on current wages.

Well, at one point you have to accept reality. Good luck.
They don't get it Volt. They think we whine and moan and don't pull ourselves up by our bootstraps. They think the system is as near to perfect as it gets so any problems people may have is due to personal initiative. If there is any problem it's because business doesn't always get its way.

So is this you finally admitting it's more difficult for millennials to be middle class? Because I absolutely accept the reality, but it seems like there are boomers in this thread who aren't accepting it.

See people, if you just lower your living standards you too could make it in subpar wages. It's your personal responsibility to handle that. Personal gumption, more right wing canards. Lol

Maybe it's because as a group you DO whine and moan (as you're doing in your post) about how everything isn't handed to you, you aren't given a $100k job next door to your house, straight out of school with your useless liberal arts degree.
Oh the horror, the least experienced generation is the least paid, clearly society is at fault.
Must have five years experience as a sandwich artist and able to sign a non completive agreement saying you will not work for another sandwich shop for a year.
8 bucks an hour
